On view from 11 June: ‘Good Food’ – An exhibition about global pioneers of sustainable food production

Agroecology Organic Smallfarming in Uganda

From 11 June to 1 November 2026, the Nederlands Fotomuseum, the National Museum of Photography, presents Good Food. The exhibition presents a global community of farmers, growers, thinkers and scientists working on sustainable ways of producing food — from agriculture to research and pastry making.

Since 2017, photographer Ruud Sies and creative producer Hanneke van Hintum have travelled to 22 countries across five continents. They documented these participants through photography and film, in their own environments and from their own perspectives. The exhibition presents a selection of these portraits and video works.

Stories of resilience

Good Food highlights people who contribute in different ways to how food is produced and used. From small-scale agriculture in Uganda and urban farming in India to initiatives in the Netherlands and beyond.

Alongside the portraits, the exhibition shows images of their land, workplaces and surroundings. In short videos, participants speak about their work. The stories are personal and reflect how they respond to change and challenges.

A hopeful perspective on food production

Discussions about agriculture often focus on challenges and loss. Good Food focuses on what is already happening and shows that alternative approaches to food production are possible.

New knowledge and technology are combined with existing practices. Farmers, makers and researchers work together on food systems that are more sustainable for people and the environment.

Publication and programme

The exhibition is accompanied by the book Good Food: A Journey Through the World of Resilient Agriculture, featuring a selection of stories and images from the project.

Good Food is part of the broader project Resilience Food Stories, which includes a website and a public programme with talks, workshops and discussions.
