Summer at Nederlands Fotomuseum

Discover the world of photography this summer! From July 13 to August 25, 2024, we are organizing super fun activities. You can get creative and take photos without a camera, or learn the finer points of the craft to take the best photos yourself.  

Workshop Cyanotype on Canvas

Can you take a photo without a camera? Absolutely! Discover how this works and create a blueprint on a canvas bag using your own drawings, a candy wrapper, flowers, or anything you happen to have in your pocket.

Date: July 17, July 31, and August 14
Time: 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM 
Duration: 1 hour
Age: 7 and up
Cost: €8 (includes canvas bag)   

Tour: 'Me and the Other'

Me and the other is a tour where you explore different perspectives of viewing through photos from the Gallery of Honour. During the tour, you'll step into various "shoes": your own, the photographer's, and the subject's. Through various viewing tasks, you'll be challenged to critically examine an image, yourself, and others.

Photography Summer Class

In this photography workshop, you'll learn the finer details of the craft. After attending this summer class, aperture, shutter speed, and composition will hold no secrets for you. You'll apply the theory and get hands-on experience to create a professional-quality photo.

NB! Do you have your own camera? Of course you can use that one. If not, we will provide you with a camera.

The Gallery of Honour is you!

Add your photo to the 99 images in gallery of honour of Dutch photography. You can upload your +1 via the Dutch Photo Museum app. The app is available for download from the Apple App Store and Google Play. .

Themed Routes through the Gallery of Honour

Themed routes take you through ten images featured in the Gallery of Honour of Dutch photography. There are three themed routes to explore. 

  • Who are de women in the Gallery of Honour? 

Follow the route and get to know the women in the Gallery of Honour. Discover who they are and what motivated them! Explore the relationship between the photographer and the image. 

  • Traces of the Slave Trade Past 

This themed route takes you through images related to the history of slavery. In what ways do you see the legacy of slavery influencing the present? 

  • A stone in the Maas

This themed route takes you through the history of Rotterdam, with the Maas River as a central thread. You will learn more about the background of the photos, the photographers, and the subjects.

The themed routes are available for free at the reception desk.

Gallery of Honour of Dutch Photography

In the Gallery of Honour of Dutch Photography, 99 iconic photos narrate the story of the development of photography in the Netherlands from 1842 to the present.

Paul Julien traveled to various countries in Africa about fifteen times between 1932 and 1962. Since 2012, Andrea Stultiens has been studying how Paul Julien's work contributed to the image of Africa in the twentieth century. 

 

This One Is For You Serra

From December 16, 2023, to September 15, 2024, the Dutch Photo Museum will host the exhibition *This One Is For You Serra* by Monica Nouwens. 

 

WOMXN. More than a muze

While women in museums are often depicted as muses in artworks, the WOMXN project flips this narrative. It focuses on women taking control. How do they see themselves? How do they want to be portrayed? What do they consider relevant?
